Latino Heritage Month 2009

Entendiendo nuestro pasado...creemos nuestro futuro.

Understanding our past...we create our future is the theme of Drexel SHPE’s Latino Heritage Month for 2009. By exploring where our forefathers have been and what they have experienced, we can learn about who we are, who we can be and the paths we would like to explore in the future. Our goal is to provide a wealth of knowledge to help the Drexel community gain an understanding of the many aspects of Latino heritage in order to build a bridge to present and future goals of the community. We have planned events that will celebrate who we are while highlighting issues that are important to us.

Featured events that fulfill our goal are a discussion of Latino myths and stereotypes to explore where they originated and why they are upheld, a civil rights presentation by Julie Chavez Rodriguez, a human rights activist and diversity speaker, and an Art Exhibit featuring works by talented Latinos within our Closing Ceremony.

We are happy to present you with our first events of the 2009/2010 school year that welcome the Drexel and Philadelphia community to partake in the celebration of LHM! We look forward to celebrating this wonderful time with you!
