Oddly enough most of the scholarly study of Mayan culture is done by Americans as opposed to the more local researchers of Mexico. Archaeologist Richard Leventhal examines why this is.

CDM and its subsidiaries, CDM Federal Programs Corporation and CDM Constructors Inc in association with the Advancing Hispanic Excellence in Technology, Engineering, Math, and Science AHETEMS have established a scholarship/internship program.
ELIGIBILITY:
SHPE junior, senior or incoming masters student
(NOTE: IF YOU ARE NOT CURRENTLY A SHPE STUDENT, YOU MAY SIGN UP TO BE A SHPE MEMBER AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION AT THE MEMBERSHIP RATE OF $5).
3.0 grade point average or better
Majoring in a engineering, science, or construction discipline, such as environmental, chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, structural, and geotechnical
Citizenship: US Citizen, legal resident or F1 visa student
Program components include a paid summer internship, mentorship, and scholarship for the ensuing academic year or first-year master's program.
Students will be selected by CDM. The internship will consist of a summer work program, during which the selected students will have the opportunity to work on a number of engineering projects at a CDM office. The key to this concept will be CDM's assignment of a mentor to the student. During the summer, in addition to working closely together, mentors and scholars will spend informal time together participating in recreational and cultural activities to help build the relationship that will endure through the scholars' college career and beyond. After the successful completion of the internship, participants will receive a scholarship to help cover expenses for the next academic year.
STIPEND:
A maximum $2,000 housing and living reimbursement is available.
After the successful completion of the internship, participants will receive a $6,000 scholarship for the next academic year.

SHPE Is MOVING! and other Updates
¡Hola Familia! ¡Feliz Año Nuevo!
I everyone's holiday was good, just a couple of updates for the New Year!
(A) Thanks for the Holiday Gifts!
DU SHPE, LUC and NHBA was able to provide $250.00 worth of gifts for the students at Say Yes to Education and Lighthouse for the holiday. Both organizations extend their warmest thanks and gratitude for the help!
(B) Latino Gala Planning!
If you're interested in helping plan this year's Latino Gala contact Deb Karhson (dsk32@drexel.edu) or Kelly Lopez (kal57@drexel.edu).
(C) Pre College Conference Donations
If you want to donate your time or money to help support the 2nd annual Pre College Engineering Workshop (PCEW) hosted by DU SHPE, Office of Academic Retention and Diversity and SHPE GPC please contact Deb Karhson, whatever you can do (buy prizes, volunteer to lead tours, help set up or break down, generally just be around to be a role model) it would be super appreciated.
